Waiting on others
What is with your customers, not with you.
Waiting on others is the part of Home that tells you what you're not carrying. Everything in it is with someone else — a customer, or someone outside your business — and CLEO isn't expecting you to do anything about it right now.
What you see
On Home, a heading with a count, and one sentence you can read without opening anything — how many things are with whom — always ending Nothing needed from you.
The list itself stays folded away. Open it and each entry shows who it's with, why, how long it's been, and Open to go to the record.
When nothing is with anyone else, the section isn't shown at all.
Why something is here
There are three ways something ends up with someone else.
Work that's waiting on the customer. A piece of work appears when any of these is true:
- It's at a stage your workflow marks as Waiting on the customer —
With them for
that stage. - Someone ticked Waiting on the customer on the work itself.
- It has an open action item whose Who is The customer or A third party —
Waiting on one thing from them before this can move.
- It's blocked, and the block is theirs rather than yours.
Requests waiting on the customer. A request whose status is Waiting on the customer — the ball is in their court — reads You’re waiting on them about
what they asked.
Decisions CLEO has asked a website client to make. If CLEO builds websites for your customers, an approval you've sent them sits here while they decide — Nothing needed from you.
Why something isn't here
CLEO puts your responsibilities first. A piece of work only shows as waiting on others if nothing of yours on it needs you. If any of these is true, it appears under Needs you instead — even if the customer also owes you something:
- The next step's date has passed.
- One of the action items is overdue.
- There's an open action item that's yours to do.
- The customer sent feedback that still needs working through.
That's deliberate. "They owe me something" never hides "and I owe them something too".
It isn't ranked
The list is grouped by kind — work, then approvals, then requests — not ordered by importance. Nothing here is more urgent than anything else, because none of it is yours.
How something leaves
The same way it arrived: when the record changes.
- The customer comes back, and you move the request on from Waiting on the customer.
- You untick Waiting on the customer on the work, or move it past a waiting stage.
- Their action item is done or cancelled.
- The approval is answered.
- The work is finished.
And if something of yours on it becomes due, it moves to Needs you — which is exactly where you'd want it.
Other places the same things appear
- Requests has its own Back with the customer section, with the same promise:
Nothing needed from you
. - Action items has a view of everything waiting on customers.
- Ask CLEO answers "what am I waiting on?" from the same work and requests.
